Is AI art a replacement to artists?

There have been a number of new websites and applications released recently that provide a different sort of entertainment, allowing users to create masterpieces on par with those of Salvador Dali and Vincent Van Gogh with only a few clicks of the mouse and taps of the keyboard.

If you look for “A.I. Generated Art” on Google Images, you’ll get a bunch of results including these kinds of paintings done in a wide variety of styles and with varying degrees of accuracy. You can even click through to the actual A.I. generators themselves. Even while I find it fascinating to look at works of art created by artificial intelligence, I think it adds nothing to the field of fine arts.

Art generated by artificial intelligence (AI) is a time- and labor-saving alternative to traditionally-created artwork, and the resulting pieces may surprise even the human curator.

Human-created artwork requires much more time and effort to completely polish the layers, portray the integrated styles to the audience, and display the artist’s ability.

Imagine a painting made by a talented artist and another made by an artificial intelligence. In your opinion, which one would be more impressive? For me, it’s always the human-made object that’s been laboriously worked on (unless the artist is just a lousy artist).

The only benefits I can think of for A.I. artwork are that it’s interesting to look at and enjoyable to produce, and that you may go ahead and make your own if you choose, but just for your own eyes and those of your friends and family.

The potential for A.I. to one day replace human artists is another another drawback of this field. To save costs, business leaders may commission an artificial intelligence to create a painting or drawing that they can use to promote movie posters, book covers, board game and card game covers, etc.

This may lead to the dismissal of certain artists. Furthermore, the delivered product loses value since it was created using a machine that anybody, even those without natural artistic ability, may use to make something appealing to the eye.

Some worry that this technology might have far-reaching consequences, to the point where it supplants traditional forms of visual expression like paintings and sketches altogether. Not in my opinion. The time and effort that an artist puts into creating something really remarkable cannot be replaced by a few clicks or a few lines of code.
